Transforming Skin with Laser Precision. The Story of CO2 Laser.

Are you seeking effective solutions for bothersome skin conditions, having exhausted various creams, lotions, and serums? Look no further than UR Royalty Med Spa’s CO2 Laser treatment. Our laser treatments are tailored to address a spectrum of issues you may be experiencing. Below, discover the intricacies of this advanced laser technology and how it can assist you in achieving optimal skin health.

Understanding the CO2 Laser

The CO2 Laser, or Carbon Dioxide Laser, is meticulously crafted to target sun damage, wrinkles, scars, birthmarks, and an array of skin irregularities. UR Royalty offers cutting-edge CO2 laser treatments employing fractionated ablative laser technology, ensuring superior outcomes with minimal downtime. While CO2 lasers typically yield optimal results for individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types 1 or 2, our comprehensive pre and post-care regimen ensures successful treatment across all Fitzpatrick skin types.

Effectiveness of CO2 Laser

Operating at a wavelength of 10,600nm, the laser emits energy absorbed by water molecules in the skin, resulting in controlled ablation of the superficial skin layer. This precise treatment induces controlled heat injury, stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. Subsequent to the healing process, the regenerated skin exhibits improved texture, firmness, and elasticity.

Treatable Skin Conditions

The versatility of CO2 laser treatment encompasses addressing a spectrum of skin concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Wrinkles (fine to deep)
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Melasma
  • Sun damage and dark spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Scarring
  • Actinic Keratosis
  • Enlarged pores
  • Age spots
  • Burn scars

Discomfort and Candidate Eligibility

While discomfort during treatment is typically moderate, we prioritize your comfort by providing appropriate numbing agents. Post-procedure, you may experience a sensation akin to a sunburn, with residual heat and discomfort lasting up to 24 hours. Candidates for CO2 laser treatment include individuals seeking remedy for the aforementioned skin concerns, provided there are no contraindications such as pregnancy, open wounds, history of poor wound healing, or use of certain medications like oral Accutane or topical retinoids.

Recovery and Consultation

Recovery from CO2 laser treatment typically spans 2 – 4 weeks, during which the treated area may exhibit sensitivity, rawness, and minor drainage. To embark on your journey towards rejuvenated skin, schedule a consultation today to address any queries or apprehensions. Contact us at 832-674-8797 to book your appointment.

One Laser, Two.

One Laser, Two? Picosecond ND-YAG Laser & IPL

Pew pew pew. . .!

Those our dear readers are the “sound effects” of a laser, but not our lasers. Now that your attention is grabbed, let us dive into our double Laser feature blog. We would like to discuss with you the benefits of YAG and IPL treatments. Both of these treatments can be used to improve a variety of skin issues. First let us talk about the IPL treatment first, also known as Intense Pulsed Light Therapy or a Photofacial.

IPL Therapy

You guessed it, this is a cosmetic procedure! It is used to improve the skin’s texture. Meaning the goal of this device is to give you clearer, even and youthful skin. It is designed to treat a range of skin pigmentation and blood vessel issues on areas such as your face, hands, neck and chest.

To give you an idea, these undesirable skin issues may be due to sun damage, hormonal changes, or a genetic vascular condition.

The main difference between this treatment and the ND-YAG laser, is that IPL is gentler on the skin, though it requires more sessions. The best part about IPL is that it sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light, meaning it can treat a wide range of skin conditions at the same time. Cool, right? Plus certain skin conditions may respond better to IPL and vice versa for the ND-YAG Laser. One of the licensed providers will be able to match you the correct treatment for your needs.

HOW DOES IT WORK EXACTLY?

IPL is designed to target specific colors in your skin. When the skin is heated from the light energy pulses from the device, the body is then able to get rid of the unwanted cells which in turn gets rid of the issue you’re being treated for. Since it only targets certain skin conditions, it doesn’t target/hurt other tissues, which means a swifter recovery.

WHAT CONDITION(s) DOES IT TREAT?

IPL works best if you have pale or light brown skin. Talk to one of our staff to see if you are a candidate, and to see if you can lessen or get rid of the following:

  • Acne
  • Dry eyes
  • Birthmarks
  • Stretch marks (Striae)
  • Liver or age spots
  • Broken blood vessels (capillaries)
  • Brown spots, also called liver or age spots
  • Dark spots from hormonal changes
  • Discolored skin
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Redness from rosacea
  • Scars
  • Spider veins
  • Unwanted hair ( Keep in mind, this devices is not specifically designed for hair removal, this is one of those happy side effects. )

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR IPL?

  • Pregnant women
  • Sunburn
  • Certain skin conditions, such as skin cancer
  • Take medications such as blood thinners, or accutane.
  • Light sensitivity
  • Recently tanned or used tanning creams
  • Dark-skinned (IPL targets colored pigments)
  • Skin resurfacing disorder
  • Severe scarring or keloids

FOOD FOR THOUGHT…!

IPL is not considered a Laser, it works differently and uses different light energy than a TRUE laser.

Pico ND-YAG Laser

Yes, before you even think about it, this is also a cosmetic procedure. This Laser treatment is designed to address a wide range of skin concerns, including but not limited to tattoo removal, pigmentation removal, and skin rejuvenation.

This device works by producing short pulses of high-intensity light that are absorbed by the targeted tissue, which can be anything from pigmented lesions to tattoo inks.

HOW DOES IT WORK THOUGH?

There is a crystal inside the handheld device that is “excited” by a diode, causing it to emit light at specific wavelengths. The laser beam is then focused by a lens, then directed onto the targeted tissue. The energy from the Laser is absorbed by the targeted tissue, which causes it to heat up and break down. As the tissue breaks down, it releases pigments or other substances that are then removed by the body’s natural processes, i.e. the lymphatic system.

In short it produces very short pulses of light measured in picoseconds with a very high peak power that allows it to target the pigmented lesions or tattoo ink without damaging the surrounding tissues.

Pico ND-YAG Laser can be used on a wider range of skin types and colors ( if you remember, IPL only treated pale to light brown ).

WHAT DOES THE PICO ND-YAG LASER TREAT?

The following concerns can be treated by our Pico ND-YAG Laser:

  • Melasma
  • Naevus of Ota
  • Naevus of Ito
  • Minocycline-induced pigmentation
  • Solar lentigines
  • Blue, black, red and green tattoo pigments
  • Acne scarring
  • Sun damage
  • Wrinkles (Rhytids)

WHO CANNOT GET PICO ND-YAG LASER?

  • Light sensitivity, or taking medications that increase sensitivity such as antihistamines, NSAIDS, and antibiotics for example.
  • Light trigger seizures
  • Accutane within the last 6 months
  • Active or localized systemic infection, or an open wound in the treatment area
  • Significant systemic illness or localized illness in the treatment area such as lupus
  • Nevi that are predisposed to the development of malignant melanoma
  • Active herpes simplex/zoster in the area being treated
  • Suspicious lesions or keloid history
  • Pregnancy

Last but not least, we do offer two more lasers! If we did a triple or quad feature, the blog would be too long. So let us discuss another laser next week. The CO2 Laser!

Laser Treatments for the Skin: Safety and Efficacy

Laser treatments have become increasingly popular for addressing various skin concerns. While they offer effective solutions, it's important to understand both the safety and efficacy aspects before receiving a laser treatment.

Safety:

  • Skilled Hands: Ensure your laser treatment is being performed by a qualified and licensed practitioner with expertise in laser treatments.
  • Importance of Consultation: A thorough consultation is crucial to assess your skin type, condition, and suitability for the specific laser treatment.
  • Potential Side Effects: Even with proper procedures, side effects can occur. These might include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or crusting. In rare cases, more serious complications like scarring, hyperpigmentation (darkening), or hypopigmentation (lightening) of the treated area can occur.
  • Skin Type Matters: Laser treatments can be riskier for darker skin tones as they absorb more laser energy. However, advancements in technology have led to the development of lasers specifically designed for safe use on all skin types.

Efficacy:

  • Targeted Treatments: Lasers offer highly targeted solutions for various skin concerns. They can address wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, unwanted hair, and uneven skin tone.
  • Varying Degrees of Effectiveness: The efficacy of laser treatments depends on several factors, including the specific laser used, the severity of the condition being treated, and the number of treatment sessions required.
  • Realistic Expectations: Laser treatments are not a one-size-fits-all solution and may require multiple sessions for optimal results. It is important to set realistic expectations about your results, which should be discussed with your provider.
  • Maintenance Might Be Needed: The results of laser treatments can vary in terms of longevity. Some concerns, like wrinkles, might require maintenance treatments over time.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • Alternatives to Laser Treatments: Discuss alternative treatment options with your licensed provider. Depending on your needs, other non-surgical or surgical procedures might be more suitable.
  • Post-Treatment Care: Following the practitioner's aftercare instructions is crucial for optimal results and minimizing the risk of complications. This might involve using sunscreen, avoiding sun exposure, and proper skincare practices.

Overall, laser treatments can be a safe and effective way to address various skin concerns when performed by a qualified professional and with proper aftercare. However, a thorough consultation and realistic expectations are essential for a successful and safe experience.

UR Royalty has three lasers available to address a variety of skin concerns and can be customized to your goals. We offer IPL, ND-YAG, and CO2 laser. Stay tuned for next week's blog where we dive into how these lasers can help you! Give us a call at (832) 674-8797!!!

Out of Tune: The Effects of Hormonal Imbalance

Hormones, our body's chemical messengers, keep things running smoothly. When they get out of whack, however, the whole orchestra can go off-key. Here's how hormonal imbalances can affect your body:

  • Weight Fluctuations: Uncontrolled hormones can wreak havoc on your metabolism. Thyroid hormone imbalances, for instance, can lead to unexplained weight gain or loss.

  • Mood Swings and Irritability: Feeling like you're on an emotional roller coaster? Hormonal imbalances, particularly those involving estrogen and progesterone, can contribute to mood swings, anxiety, and irritability.

  • Sleep Disruptions: Can't seem to catch those Zzz's? Hormone imbalances, such as melatonin deficiency, can disrupt your sleep cycle, leading to insomnia or excessive fatigue.

  • Skin and Hair Issues: Hormonal imbalances can show up on your skin. Acne breakouts, oily skin, or dry skin can all be signs of hormonal fluctuations. Changes in hair growth or texture can also occur.

  • Reproductive Issues: Hormonal imbalances can disrupt your reproductive system. Irregular periods, difficulty getting pregnant, and decreased sex drive can all be potential signs.

  • Energy Levels: Feeling constantly drained? Hormonal imbalances, especially those affecting thyroid function, can zap your energy levels and leave you feeling sluggish.

  • Bone Health: Hormones play a vital role in bone health. Imbalances, particularly estrogen deficiency in women, can increase the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.

  • Increased Hunger: Ever feel like you're constantly reaching for snacks? Hormonal imbalances, particularly those involving leptin and insulin, can disrupt your appetite regulation, leading to increased hunger and cravings.

  • Focus and Concentration: Feeling foggy-brained? Hormonal imbalances, such as those affecting cortisol, can impact your cognitive function, making it harder to concentrate and focus.

  • Increased Risk of Chronic Conditions: Chronically imbalanced hormones can increase your risk of developing certain health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

Remember: This list is not exhaustive, and hormonal imbalances can manifest in various ways. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.
